The picture above was taken on 12/28/2013. I made the decision for myself and for my family that ENOUGH was ENOUGH, and I did something about it. I decided that I was going to face myself in the mirror and stop with the excuses. There comes a point where you have to grow up and face your habits! I realized that I had un-healthy habits and that I needed to do something about it. I decided to do a “66 Day Challenge.” I would be doing physical activity for 66 days straight and take no days off. I did “Before” and “After” photos/ weighed myself/ and documented my daily activity. This challenge honestly motivated me because I felt like I was on a journey and that I needed to document it. I was ashamed of my weight and I was self conscious. I honestly locked myself in a room and went to work. I was on a Mission! I was in a battle and I wanted to see how strong I could truly be, and finish the challenge as a Warrior. I made sure I did “something” every single day for 66 days. Some days I went harder, and then on some I took it easy. It is empowering to be able to start a challenge and finish it stronger than you started.
The key to being successful and sticking to a plan is doing it for the simple reason that you want to CHANGE and BE HEALTHY. It is not about a number or waist size!! I am not dictated or defined by a scale or a pair of pants. It is important to be the BEST version of ourselves!! Yes, I lost weight in this challenge (that came with it) but what I learned was discipline. I learned that I can do ANYTHING that I put my mind to, and I was PROUD of myself!! If you would like to see my 66 day journey in depth you can see my blogpost.
The concept I have now adapted and made my own is to take it ONE DAY AT A TIME and ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO STRIVE FOR. You need to keep yourself mentally stimulated and not get in the day to day rut, that many tend to get in to. When you wake up for work don’t grumble about it being Monday. Get up and be thankful that you are alive another day on this earth and that you have another day to be GREAT!! This life is truly a gift and we need to be thankful and enjoy the journey. It is important we take care of ourselves. Many people think they need to spend a fortune on the best gym memberships/ machines/ diets/ etc. There is not quick fix, you put in the work and you reap the reward. It is making yourself a priority (which you deserve to do) and being disciplined. You put those two together and you are unstoppable.
