What’s a workout you can do anywhere, with no equipment, and is good for all fitness levels?
You know the answer: it’s running!
Running is a very beginner-friendly exercise, even if it seems like after 5 minutes you’ve never breathed so hard in your life. Don’t worry – we’ve all been there.
There’s no better way to start running than to just start. But if you’d like to get a little but more knowledge before you hit the pavement, here are a few running tips for beginners to get you started.
- Start small. Begin with just running a few minutes at a time, then slowly increase your time. If you can’t run a full mile when you first start out, that’s nothing to fret about. Begin by just running 1 minute at a time with 1 minute of rest, then 2 minutes running, then 3, until you’re able to go longer distances!
- Invest in a good pair of shoes. SER-I-OUS-LY. This is very important, in case you couldn’t tell by the dramatic caps. Running in your same old pair of shoes that you use for working in the yard will not cut it. You need support and stability. We love the Mizuno Wave Rider 21 for runners of all ages and abilities – so comfy!
- Choose safe routes and wear bright colors. Even during broad daylight, you still want to be as visible as possible when running outside. Wear bright colors and reflective clothing, and choose routes where you will be easily seen by drivers (and plenty of other people!).
- Don’t compare yourself to others. If you are just starting to run, don’t think about your friend Gina who just finished her 3rd marathon and runs a 6 minute mile pace. let these people inspire you, but don’t compare yourself to them. You are where you are – and that’s exactly where you need to be!
Loved and trusted by veteran runners and beginners alike, Mizuno is there to help you run your first mile or hit a PR. The newest edition of the Wave Rider is the best one yet, with 21 years of innovation leading up to this shoe to provide the smoothest, softest ride yet.
