Julia Child once said “You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces, just good food from fresh ingredients.” We totally agree, Julia. With simple, fresh ingredients, you can create a meal that is healthy and refreshing and full of flavor. Our current ingredient of choice? Tomatoes.
Tomatoes are often taken for granted as an ingredient. They’re not often in the spotlight, but more of an afterthought. But tomatoes are so much more than just the base for your salsa. These seemingly basic ingredients are a rich source of vitamins and nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, and folic acid. In addition, they’ve got antioxidants a-plenty. Plus, alpha-lipoic acid, lycopene, choline, beta-carotene and lutein (those are all really good for you, FYI).
This fruit (yes, it’s technically a fruit) is currently in season, and we can all agree that the taste of a summer-grown tomato is much sweeter and satisfying! Pick up fresh, sun-ripened tomatoes and try some of the best recipes using tomatoes that we could find. But first, you’ll need the right tools.
Rachael Ray 12-qt. Stockpot: Stew and simmer in this do-it-all pot. With 12 quart capacity, you can make larger servings to eat throughout the week!
Farberware 1-qt. Covered Straining Saucepan: Everyone needs a good saucepan, and this one does double duty with a straining feature! Boil and strain with minimal equipment.
Oceanstar 3-pc. Bamboo Cutting Board Set: Keep food prep sanitary with different cutting boards for different foods, easily done with this 3-piece set.
A well-equipped kitchen is the foundation of any good meal, and fresh ingredients are the makings of a culinary masterpiece. Make like Julia Child and whip up some of these tomato recipes for a fresh and healthy seasonal meal.
