For many women, once they discover they’re expecting, thoughts creep in of how they’ll drop the pregnancy pounds once the little one arrives. This probably will include counting calories, eating healthy and finding time to squeeze a workout in. The months after baby arrives can be exhausting and overwhelming and it’s easy to get discouraged. Luckily, there are some awesome tools to keep you on track during this time, so there’s no need to go it alone. Our partner Polar is a leader in providing stylish watches & wristbands to help you count calories, track steps and stay active! Pair the following tips with a Loop 2, A300 or M400 and start watching the pounds come off! Once you’ve been given the green light from your doctor to resume regular physical activity, you can ease back into a fitness routine that will have you feeling strong and fit in no time. Here’s our top 5 tips for losing that baby weight.
1. Take Baby Steps (no pun intended)
Even if you’ve been walking, jogging or performing other fitness activities during your pregnancy, the best thing you can do is start out slow when getting back into shape. Following your doctor’s advice, tailor your training to your body’s specific needs, and be kind to yourself – this journey takes time! Begin with light walking for the first month or two, and slowly increase your intensity. Track your steps to keep yourself motivated. The Loop 2 from Polar is a great tool for knowing how far you’ve gone and for setting goals for future workouts. Always listen to your body, and slow down if things become too strenuous.
2. Let the House Get Dirty
This may not sound like much of a weight-loss tip, but it ties in, we promise. With a baby to care for, errands to run and a plan to get back in shape, everyday house chores can seem impossible to complete. You know what? Let them go unattended for a few days. Not only do you deserve it, but if you’re serious about losing the baby weight you may have to sacrifice housework for a workout.
3. Take Naps
Wait, what? Sleeping can help you lose the baby weight? YES. Getting plenty of sleep aids in weight loss as it prevents us from binging on sugary snacks for energy. We know it might be hard to find time to nap when taking care of a newborn, so we suggest taking every opportunity possible! Rule number 1: nap when the baby naps. Even if this means you’re skipping a workout for a nap, do it. Without enough sleep, you won’t have the energy to exercise anyways! Make sure you’re wearing your Polar A300 for every nap and night of sleep. This will automatically clock both the moment you start sleeping and wake up.
4. Eat Healthy Snacks
Sometimes we need to be reminded of even the most obvious weight-loss tips. As a new mom, you’re going to be quite the busy bee. With so much on your plate, you might be grabbing a bag of chips or a candy bar for a quick energy boost. Keep in mind these types of snacks will only provide a short burst of energy followed by an unwanted crash. Instead, choose fruits, veggies, healthy fats, and whole grains for snacktime. Some of our favorites include low-fat yogurt, unsalted trail mix, granola and apples. Of course, even healthy snacks should be logged into your daily calorie count. Log your calories with MyFitnessPal and connect it with your Polar M400!
5. Meet Other New Moms
One of the best ways to stay on track with your health and fitness goals is to spend time with other like-minded people. Connect with other new parents to chat about parenthood, share recipes and motivate one another. However, we can’t always be with our friends for support. Not to fear! The Polar A300 and M400 can help you stay connected with friends even when you’re not together. Connect both to your MyFitnessPal account, and use your M400 to be alerted to incoming calls and text messages.
