I love to snack.
Snacking it 100% okay, so if you secretly whispered “me too,” take comfort.
Snacking gets a bad rap, but it’s just like anything else – if you do it right, it can help you reach your goals. If you do it wrong, it can push you further away. So how do we snack right?
Snaking on real, whole foods is always a good choice. Keeping those snacks below 300 calories is also good. It’s when we start mindlessly munching on crunchy chips and empty calories that gets us into trouble.
The purpose of a snack is to tide you over until your next meal, not be a mini meal in and of itself. So here are a few ideas you can munch on to keep you from getting too hungry between meals!
- Protein bars. We love VEGA Chocolate Caramel bars and Quest Bars. The protein is satisfying, and it usually knocks out that sweet craving I get mid-afternoon. The only things to watch out for here are the sugar content and the ingredients.
- Mixed nuts and a protein shake. This is one of my favorite snacks, because it provides the perfect balance of protein and fats to keep me full until my next meal.
- Beef jerky and baby carrots. Offering another big boost of protein, jerky is a great source. Add baby carrots for some veggie goodness and you’re all set. Naked Cow is a great paleo jerky brand with no added sugars.
