Together, they created a healthy lifestyle, lost weight, and found a passion for fitness! Meet the bloggers behind He and She Eat Clean as they share their transformation story.
We are high school sweethearts who got married and gained 20 lbs during our first year of marriage. Dinner was cereal, Hamburger Helper or Rice-A-Roni. That was if we ate at home but most of the time it was fast food from Zaxby’s, McDonalds, or Chick Fil-A.
Scott left a high stress job (with a 45 minute commute each way) to take one 5 minutes from our house for a non profit golf organization, still working in finance but with a pay cut. It was one of the best decisions we ever made! He had an awesome schedule and great work/life balance. He decided it was time for him to take control of his health and started reading everything he could about healthy eating and working out. He lost his dad to cancer when he was 15 so he didn’t want to go down the same unhealthy road.
It took me a little bit longer to transition because I was so shy I didn’t want to go into a gym. I was on a two week work trip in Arizona and saw this girl running Camelback Mountain (that I was hiking at the time) and I thought; I want to do that! She was so powerful and confident! I never had a clothing size or weight goal but just wanted to be healthy and strong. I immediately sent Scott a text message and told him when I got home I would go to the gym with him. And that’s exactly what happened! When I got home I start going to the gym and we started preparing healthy meals together.
I still had a high stress job and commuted 45 minutes each way but I made it happen. I would pack all of my meals for the day and my gym bag and head to the gym right after work and then work on the website until about 11 or 12 each night.
Eating clean and working out has completely changed our lives. Scott went from a waist size of 38” to 32” and I went from a size 10 to a size 4 but more importantly we are much happier, much stronger, and have so much energy! Because we are healthy, we have been able to take some amazing hiking trips that wouldn’t be possible if we had continued down the same path we were on. We’ve climbed the highest mountain in the lower 48, Mount Whitney. We’ve also climbed Half Dome (Yosemite National Park) and Angels Landing (Zion National Park) (talk about scary!!!!). We take a hiking trip each fall where we hike over 100 miles in under two weeks. It’s the highlight of our year and one of the reasons we love living a healthy lifestyle all year long.
We had so many people ask us what we do that we decided to blog about it! That turned into what www.HeandSheEatClean.com is today, which helps and inspires thousands of other couples and individuals achieve this lifestyle. This lifestyle change led Whitney to become a personal trainer, health coach, and run He and She Eat Clean fulltime.
When people ask for advice or need motivation this is what we tell them: You can either change your life and live the life you have always wanted or you can continue down the path that you are on. Once YOU have decided that you want to transform and change your life you need to change the way you think about yourself. You must start thinking about yourself positively. This journey is VERY mental. You must believe in yourself and know that you can do it. It will be hard and you will want to give up but you don’t really have that option. You must continue to move forward. No one else can want this for you – YOU must make that decision.
Through hard work (team work) and prioritizing our tasks we are able to live a fit and healthy lifestyle! There are no excuses; it just takes some good old fashioned hard work!
