Table sugar and a clean diet don’t mix. But that doesn’t mean your sweet tooth has to suffer. Satisfy your craving by baking with a natural sugar alternative, stevia.
I’ll be the first to admit that I love sweets. However, I know that they aren’t good for me. So why do I keep coming back? The reason is: sugar.
It seems fairly obvious that sugar makes things sweet, but its addictive nature and health risks can easily sour my goals to eat healthier this year. Eating sugar not only spikes your blood sugar which leads to the infamous sugar crash, but excess sugar is stored as fat in the body.
So how can I satisfy my sweet tooth and actually feel good about doing so? That’s where natural sugar substitutes come in! NOW Foods offers healthier sweetening substitutes that contain no sugar whatsoever, but instead derive sweetness from natural sources like stevia or erythritol! NOW’s BetterStevia® is derived from the stevia plant, and their proprietary natural extraction process gives you stevia’s sweet benefits without the bitter aftertaste. Plus, it’s zero calories and doesn’t harm your teeth like table sugar. BetterStevia® products are available in convenient liquid, packet, powder and tablet forms so finding what works for you is a no-brainer.
When it comes to baking, one of our favorite products is Sugarless Sugar, a natural one-to-one sugar substitute with a low glycemic impact for a lower carb and sugar-free recipe alternative. There’s no excuse not to pick some up the next time you’re craving some homemade treats. Speaking of which, we’re heading to the kitchen NOW to whip up a batch of these gluten-free Chocolate Freedom Cupcakes! Yep, we’re drooling.

Important note: Since your recipe will require much less BetterStevia® than regular sugar, be sure to include a thickening agent to make up some of the bulk lost. You can try applesauce, mashed banana, or pumpkin puree! Get creative. If you use regular stevia in place of sugar, use 1/3 cup of thickening agent per cup of sugar. If using Sugarless Sugar, there’s no need for any additional ingredients! Simply use it cup-for-cup instead of sugar.
