This fitness success story is about weight loss, yes – but even more about commitment to creating a better life for their family! Matthew & Felicia struggled with different ways of coping with stress, but soon found the best form of therapy in exercise.
So many people see us as that fitness couple. We’re both master trainers for Beachbody Live, we have our own fitness studio, we’re personal trainers and seem to have it all. Three healthy active boys, travelling internationally doing fitness presentations and workshops. Its the perfect life for so many. But what people don’t know is that over 10 years ago our marriage was in shambles.
Felicia was 6 months pregnant, I was pushing the scales at about 240 pounds and in the middle of a serious battle with alcohol. We had met at work a few years earlier and both of us were personal trainers working together at a local gym. After getting married our past caught up with us (in our own heads) and sent us on a downward spiral. We both dealt with our issues differently. Felicia with overeating (claiming it was for two) and me with alcohol. Adding to all this, we were starting our own business by opening up a boutique fitness studio. Our food choices were terrible.
We constantly set ourselves up for failure doing programs we knew we couldn’t and wouldn’t stick to. That’s because failure, not changing was easy. It was what we were use to. But that’s the thing- we needed to make a change and get out of what we were used to. We had to make a commitment to ourselves. Individually first, then with on another. How could we help one another when we could not even help ourselves?
So, commitment came. I entered a 21 day facility to deal with self-medicating with alcohol and to help me figure out why I was sabotaging myself. That gave Felicia the ability to take back her life and get herself going. We came to an agreement that we would get back to doing what we preached. We committed once again to each other, the first time since our wedding, that we would start working together via fitness. We needed to work on our self esteem issues. We ended up overcoming so many obstacles by doing a simple form of therapy: Fitness therapy. We decided to start exercising together and keep it up consistently for years. Was it always consistent? Nope. Those are the times in the past 10+ years that things started to fall apart again. But, we committed to doing what was going to work for us.
Despite being personal trainers we needed direction. We ended up getting a program off of the television called Turbo Fire. It was not easy to follow a food plan and someone else’s workouts. That moved onto other Beachbody products and really not only transformed our lives in areas of weight loss and total fitness and health. It lead us to becoming Team Beachbody coaches and from there, Master Trainers for Beachbody Live! We now certify trainers and instructors in PiYo, Insanity, P90X LIVE and Turbo Kick. We learned that staying consistent, finding a program or multiple programs that work into our schedules is the key. We understand that if we can’t workout together, we each make sure we both get it in that day, not making one another feel guilty if we are working out while the other is not. We keeping each other accountable and give one another the support and encouragement that we both need to keep this going.
Fitness has not only changed our lives physically but mentally. Our relationship is better daily. It opened the lines of communication properly. We still have stresses in our lives but for the most part, we can handle what’s being thrown at us. We learned a long time ago that separately we are strong but together, as www.MatthewandFeliciaTaub.com, as a strong, fit couple, we are unstoppable. That’s why we work with as many couples as possible to help them change their lives. Its about real fitness, real results and creating a better, balanced life.
