3 Biggest Fat Loss Myths
Guest post by Jeremy Scott
The fitness industry is a crazy, fun, amazing world filled with tons, and tons of great information. Unfortunately, this also brings about a lot of myths and lies that are created to sell you on a magical solution to get lean and stay that way. Lets just dispel some of these myths once and for all so you can focus on what really works in your journey to being healthy and look sexy as hell naked!
Fat Loss Myth #1 – Spot Reduction a.k.a. Localized Fat Loss
The idea that many people get sold on is directed at their insecurities about having “trouble spots” or areas. Think of things like “six pack in 6 minutes” “better booty in 1 hour” these catchy phrases are geared to sell you on drastically improving that area on your body with a specific workout.
For some reason this myth just won’t die, if you had no choice on where fat got added to your body, why would you think you have a choice of where it comes off? Numerous factors play a roll into where fat gets added first and lost first on your body, doing sit ups for hours on end won’t give you a six pack if your body fat isn’t dropping.
Don’t believe me? Go buy an “abs” program and don’t change your eating and just do your new “abs” program and call me when your six pack appears….I will be waiting by the phone.
The best bet is to stick with a great overall training and nutrition program mixed with proper sleep and supplementation. Do this and watch your entire body transform.
Myth #2 – Eating 6-7 meals per day every 2-3 hours speeds up metabolism
I am sorry but your metabolism is not a fire you can’t keep feeding it to make it speed up and burn more, it simply doesn’t work that way. I would almost argue the exact opposite: meal frequency matters far less than many of you think, my opinion for the general public (average gym goer) it’s almost irrelevant.
Think of it this way if you eat 3,000 calories in 1 meal per day or 3,000 in six meals per day what’s the difference? Is one way more beneficial? Does one way burn more fat?
If you are skeptical try it out instead of eating every 2-3 hours space it out every 4-5 hours or longer and see if after a month there is any noticeable change with the same macros. My guess is there will be none. I am come from the Intermittent Fasting world and have been doing it for years with nothing but positive results. I am actually much more successful eating less meal for multiple reasons, but that’s for another blog.
At the end of the day what matters most if your overall macro-calorie breakdown if you want to lose fat/weight you must be at a deficit – it has little to do or nothing to do with meal frequency.
Myth # 3 – Magazines, commercials, advertisements making fat loss seem quick and easy
I touched on these earlier “six pack in 6 minutes”, “bigger arms in 7 days” the list is endless but the reality is without long term changes in your lifestyle none of these things above work. Companies and marketers pray on your insecurities to sell you on some magic solution and pipe dream that it can be done quick and easy.
Think of this phrase “fat loss is easy once you realize how hard it is” ponder that for a minute. If it was as easy as the commercial says there would be millions of ripped, lean, sexy people walking around with rock hard abs, tight butts, toned legs and arms with no fat to be found. The truth is people in amazing shape live a lifestyle that creates that image, it takes time, effort, energy and it’s far from “easy and quick.”
Ask anyone you know in great shape odds are they eating well, train hard, and take care of their body like it’s their most important possession. The old saying goes “nothing worth having comes easy” don’t believe the hype; don’t get sold on a magic secret.
The real secret is; there isn’t one. It’s called hard work and persistence day after day living a life that creates the long-term changes you desire.
I hope you guys understand now that at the end of all this information and fun content you can find the ultimate answer to your problem is –changing your lifestyle in terms of how you eat and train and live daily to reach all your fat loss goals!
Best of luck and keep working hard & smart it always pays off!
