Everybody wants abs because of how they look, but it’s what they do that is the most important.
Having a strong core is incredibly vital to your strength and the ability to perform exercises correctly. it’s also incredible beneficial to your health in general! Less pain, better movement, and more enjoyable physical experiences when playing sports or doing other activities.
Your core is more than just your abs – it actually encompasses both the front and the back of the body, essentially connecting your upper and lower halves. It’s so much more than just that six pack – it’s the foundation for all movement. Here are a few reasons your core is so important!
You can perform other exercises better
I am constantly reminding my clients to brace their core, squeeze their abs, and keep good posture. They probably get pretty annoyed with how much I repeat myself, but it really is that important to remember. With every movement, bracing your core can help you to use the actual muscles you’re supposed to be using, rather than causing strain in any other area. For example: when your core is weak and you go into a squat, your lower back will arch and you will feel pressure on your lower back, rather than focusing on the legs and butt.

You’ll have less back pain
Like I mentioned in the example of the squat above, a weak core often means that your lower back will take a lot of pressure. Especially in planks, push ups, squats – anything that requires you to have a neutral spine – you’ll feel it in your lower back if your core is not doing what it should. Back pain affects 4 out of 5 people at some point in their life, which is kind of outrageous. Work your core and avoid this!
Your balance will improve
Balance is incredibly dependent on your core. Those with a weak core often have very poor balance, but strengthening your core can help to improve it! Whether you are simply walking along, doing yoga, or even trying to stand on one leg, your core stability will help to keep you upright and strong.
The benefits of having a strong core are not just for exercise, but for everything! Use these core exercises to promote muscle growth in that area and keep yourself safe – and strong!
