Doesn’t Madeline Glasser look nice in the Spotlight? Madeline authors the blog Food, Fitness, and Family, which focuses on just that: tasty eats, sweaty workouts, and life as a family of three. You can find her on Twitter @foodfitandfam , Pinterest, and Facebook.
1. How do you define FitFluential?
In one word … community. Yes, we are all passionate about living a healthy lifestyle but the community that FitFluential brings together is unlike anything else out there. The motivation and encouragement I have received from my FitFluential family has been unparalleled.
2. What is your main motivation to be fit?
My 6-month old daughter is my main motivation. One lifetime with her is just not enough. In order to make sure I am around for a long time I maintain a healthy lifestyle. Not only does staying fit benefit me, but it sets a positive example for her. I want Emmalyne to grow up being active and LOVING it.
3. FitFluential believes the key to balance is Eat, Sleep, Move, Enjoy. What is your favorite way to Enjoy Life?
MOVE. More specifically I enjoy life when I am moving as a family. My husband and I have started doing a long run together on the weekends toting along the baby in our jogging stroller. Not only are we getting quality family time together but we are getting our heart rate up and getting a good workout in. When we aren’t running we like to take our dogs on hikes, play sand volleyball, or anything else that is outdoors and fun!
4. What is your regular fitness routine?
I love a lot of variety in my fitness routine. In any given week I might run, do CrossFit, practice yoga, or get in a heavy weight session. Variety is the spice of life and it is also the key to overcoming getting into a gym rut for me. I try to get in 5-6 good workouts a week.
5. What advice do you have for someone at the beginning of their fitness journey?
A journey begins with a single step so that is how you should start your fitness journey as well … one step at a time. Each milestone you reach, whether it is losing 5 pounds, running a marathon, or simply feeling healthier, you are getting closer to your goal. It will be hard at times. It will take motivation. It will take commitment. BUT it will be worth it. Also, don’t compare yourself to others. Drawing comparisons can negatively effect your mood and performance so the only person you are competing against is YOU. Enjoy your accomplishments. Eat clean but still have your favorite dessert occasionally.
Bonus Question:
New moms can have a hard time balancing their newfound role as a parent and their overall fitness goals. How do you make time to fit in a workout?
I schedule all of my workouts in my planner. I also got over my fear of gym child care early on. Whether it means going to the gym after the hubs goes to work or Emmalyne goes with me fitting in fitness is a priority of mine. The only way you will make time for it is if you make it a priority for you. Working out helps maintain my sanity which in the long run is best for my family. 😉
