The new year is here, and your goals aren’t going to reach themselves. Here’s how to stay focused on those resolutions and be #FitForEverything! Brought to you by Danskin NOW.
Goals set? Check.
Healthy groceries bought? Yup.
Gym membership renewed? You bet.
We’re starting off full steam in January, with a shiny new year to look forward to and goals to achieve. Whether you set resolutions or not, I’m sure you have some goals you want to achieve! And this year, we’re going after them, hard.
It’s exciting to start off with so much forward momentum, but the key is to keep that momentum. The motivation to succeed can wane as the weeks go by, but your goals are still there. Don’t leave them abandoned! Stay fit and focused in 2017 with these 5 tips.
Break them down
It’s easy to dream big, but figuring out how to get there can be disheartening. Take that big goal and break it down into things you can do this week – even today. For example, if you want to lose 20 pounds, maybe today you can go shopping for healthy groceries, and this week you can commit to working out 5 times. These sub-goals are much more easily achievable, giving you that sense of accomplishment that can spur you to keep going!
Understand that it takes time
Losing weight or building muscle is a long journey. None of the fit-stagram models you follow woke up like that or achieved their physique in a month. It takes a lot of time, a lot of effort, and a lot of consistency. Stay true to your goals and you’ll get there – it just might take a little while. Enjoy the process!
Get that goal and celebrate! If you hit your weekly goal of workouts, you deserve something special. I’m a workout clothes junkie, so my go-to reward is always a new sports bra, or a fancy pair of leggings. Shopping at Walmart for Danskin NOW is an affordable and fun reward that I give myself each month. The clothes are stylish and cheap enough that I’m also not breaking my resolution to save more money. SCORE.
If it’s not for you, that’s okay
Too often I see people striving to achieve their goals and being absolutely miserable in the process. I’ve been guilty of the same thing! I used to run daily, thinking that it was the best way to lose weight. And I did not enjoy a single second of it. I know, it has so many benefits, but I simply could not find pleasure in jogging down the sidewalks of my neigborhood. Once I found a workout that I fell in love with, I finally looked forward to going to the gym! For me that was kickboxing, but for you it might be Crossfit or rock climbing or yoga! Experiment. Find something you enjoy. And then stick to it!
Stick to your guns
While I highly encourage you to experiment and find a workout or a way of eating that you enjoy, I also believe in the power of consistency. Once you find a plan, stick to it! Be honest – how many times have you started a workout or meal guide, did it for 3 weeks, then stopped and picked up another one because you saw a really impressive before/after photo? Test your commitment, stick it out, and I promise you’ll enjoy better results than if you were to only halfway do a million different things.
