Safari didn’t deprive herself – she ate what she wanted, when she wanted. Only this time, she practiced moderation and tracked her food. She’s now 68 pounds down and running triathlons! Her fitness success story inspires us daily.
I am currently on the journey of my life!!! I have struggled with weight my entire adult life. 4 years ago I made a decision that changed my life forever! I stopped dieting/depriving myself and I started eating what I wanted when I wanted (in moderation) and focused on my fitness success story instead of weight.
I started tracking everything I ate…good or bad. I had good days and bad days but I made a rule that I would not allow myself to have two bad eating days in a row or go more than two days without working out. I tracked EVERYTHING I put in my mouth. If it didn’t have a label, I didn’t eat it. If the restaurant wasn’t on the app, I didn’t go there. I didn’t start or stop eating anything, initially. Over time, I gradually phased certain foods out, not because they were off limits but because they weren’t worth it. I completely cut out most fast foods, like McDonald’s, Burger King and Taco Bell. I can’t tell you the last time I’ve been to any of those places and I used to frequent them, almost daily!
I look back at my life and I’m so happy/thankful that I’m still going…that I haven’t quit…that this is actually my life and I’ve been successful with making a lifestyle change!! I have started and stopped more diets than I can count but this time, I made a change that I can and will do for life! I’m not at my goal weight yet but for once in my life… I KNOW I will get there! I have learned to take it one day/meal/pound at a time. That the weight did not come on overnight, so it and the bad habits would not leave overnight. That making subtle changes were the key to my success… I phased them out so subtly that I don’t even miss them. The desire literally is gone! I learned that diets do NOT work for me. If it makes me miserable, I’m not going to stick with it and will only set me back further. So…I do NOT deprive myself. If I want it, I eat it but in moderation!
