Whether you’ve made a New Year’s resolution or not, we all strive to be healthier. That’s why we’ve come up with 5 super easy tips to becoming a healthier you in 2016.
Eat More Greens
Whether it’s adding a handful of spinach to your morning smoothie or serving a side of broccoli with dinner, eating your green vegetables is a key component of a healthy lifestyle. They’re a great source of antioxidants and contain all sorts of healthy vitamins like C, E and beta-carotene. From maintaining eye, hair and skin health to fueling your days with energy and focus, there’s really no end to the health benefits of eating more greens.

Make Fresh Foods a Pantry Staple
Do you find yourself stuck in the frozen foods aisle? Or surrounded by boxed, bagged and chemically infused products? Let’s change that in 2016. Consuming plenty of fresh foods – i.e. fruits, veggies, lean meats, whole grains and dairy – is the best way to ensure your body is getting the variety of nutrients it needs. Not only are these the foods that make up a balanced diet, but they are also less-processed than their boxed or packaged counterparts. Eating fresh foods doesn’t mean giving up our favorite packaged products completely. There’s tons of delicious recipes that use nothing more than fresh ingredients – like these clean eating swaps!
Find an Exercise You Actually LIKE
It’s called working out for a reason. It’s work! And if you don’t enjoy the exercise, you’re more likely to give up completely. Experiment with different workouts until you find something you truly enjoy. This way you’re more inclined to stick with it and experience all the benefits that come from a consistent routine (like that flat tummy you’ve been working on). Other benefits of an enjoyable workout regimen include increased productivity, improved focus and a stronger immune system.
Choose Packaged Foods Carefully
I told you to eat fresh foods. Now I’m going to tell you how you can still eat packaged foods – the smart way. The word “processed” often comes with a negative connotation in our health-focused world. But not all processed foods are bad. When shopping, practice this one rule of thumb: read it before you eat it. In other words – check the nutrition label! If you can read the ingredients, have a general understanding of what they are, and the product contains healthy amounts of fiber, protein and carbs (and smaller amounts of sugar and sodium), it’s probably OK. Make sure you’re wearing comfortable walking shoes – you might find reading labels tacks on extra time at the supermarket.
Maximize Your Workouts
You don’t have to spend hours at the gym in order to get in better shape. But you do have to make the most of the time you spend working out. Only have 20 minutes? That’s fine. Just make sure you’re working for those 20 minutes. You can’t expect to change your physique by doing 20 minutes of leisurely walking (of course, it’s better than nothing but you know I mean). When you’re short on time, consider HIIT workouts, that consist of short bursts of intense movement followed by quick rest periods. This will boost your heart rate and promote insane calorie burn.
