Katie Freeman battled with depression until she found fitness. Now, she is living a healthy lifestyle for herself, her family, and to inspire others. Read her weight loss story.
My story started out as a pretty dark one. I’ve been overweight and very unhealthy my whole life. I suffered from depression and poor self esteem. My depression and self esteem issues greatly affected my health and my relationships. I completely shut down; I ended friendships and stuck to myself, I secluded myself from my family, and I became very secretive. It was to the point that I would skip meals at school so nobody would judge me, and I would sneak food into my room at night and binge eat. Ultimately, my very destructive behavior lead to numerous hospitalizations for suicide attempts. Self mutilation and food were my medication for more than 10 years.
I decided at the beginning of this year to finally make some changes. I’m completely off of all my medications now and I am down 50 pounds. I find joy in heavy lifting and HIIT. Mostly, I find joy in sharing my story with other people and helping them to find a healthier version of themselves. I have two young children also. I want to teach them that they can do anything they put their minds to if they just keep at it. I do this by never giving up. My boys are my drive. I need to be better for not only myself, but for them.
