It’s almost Father’s Day, dads (and kids… here is your reminder)! If you’re a dad, read on. If you’re a kid, these are some pretty great Father’s Day gifts. So you keep reading too!
Sunday, June 21st is the day we celebrate you, dad. The whole day. Just for you. You deserve it.
It’s easy to get caught up in taking care of others, that sometimes you might not take care of yourself. Well, no more of that. It’s time to have some fun and enjoy your day- and every day! #MakeYourMove to health and happiness with our top 5 tips for healthy, happy dads.
5 Tips for Healthy, Happy Dads
1. Embrace your inner geek.
Take advantage of all the technology to help you stay on track: mobile apps, fitness trackers, and so much more. There’s not much that isn’t available in the palm of your hand, and having the latest fitness technology is not only good for staying on track with your goals, but it’s fun. New toys! We recommend the Fitbit Surge Fitness Activity Tracker. Track distance run, elevation and calorie burn for workouts, plus all-day tracking of steps and more.
2. Get social.
Connect on social media with other like-minded dads. (They do exist!) Surround yourself with those who will encourage and support your healthy habits both online and in real life. It’s hard to be the only one eating healthy and working out, and if your friends prefer to get together for pizza and beer rather than chicken and lemon water, it can be helpful to find someone who shares your goals. Join a running club or find an online fitness group! Check out the #MakeYourMove hashtag to read articles, find inspiration, and connect with others.
3. Play to win.
Take your love of sports from the television to the court! You love to watch them, now remember how much fun it is to play them! Find weekly pick up games of basketball, local open gym nights, a flag football league, or even kickball. Not sure you want to get competitive? Volunteer to help coach your kids’ teams, or at least represent your favorite team while you work out! Kohl’s has apparel for nearly every team, college and professional. Get decked out from head to toe with hats, shirts, shorts, and everything else you can think of (even bowties!). Drop the hint to you kids that Father’s Day gifts don’t have to be crazy, they just have to match your crazy inner sports fan.
4. Motivation where it matters most.
Whether young or grown, your kids are watching. Enjoy spending time with them, encouraging them, and participating in their lives. Go for runs together, play a pick-up tennis match, go to their soccer games, help them with their homework. Take the time. It’s worth it. And if they live far away, stay connected! Mark your calendar with a reminder to call, text, FaceTime, or write.
5. Allow an indulgence.
No one wants to forgo the joys of pizza and beer forever. Practice the 80/20 rule and plan ahead for those events where you’ll let yourself indulge – guilt free! With all your hard work, you’ve earned it. And Father’s Day sounds like the perfect occasion, wouldn’t you agree? Grill up some burgers on a fancy new grill, like the UniFlame Outdoor Charcoal Barbecue Grill. You just can’t beat that fresh-off-the-grill taste. And meal prep some grilled chicken while you’ve got it going! It’s all about moderation and enjoying every bite, every day.
