Hello all you Fit and Healthy Fanatics! Ilyse Baker here, your Celebrity Dance Fitness Contributor! I am here to get you moving and grooving the dancer way. Oh wait— are you saying the following to yourself right now:
“Dance is not a workout or tough enough for me.”
“I have 2 left feet.”
“I have never danced before.”
“I can’t dance.”
And…blah blah blah!
Trust me, I have heard it all. Well think again! Dance is one of the best ways to work out and it is fun!
The benefits of dance are endless! Dancing can be the most rejuvenating form of exercise, but what most people don’t know is that it also has huge health benefits. As a mind and body workout, dancing can make your body and soul feel good in a way that no other exercise can. It can help you lose weight, strengthen and tone your body, increase stamina and flexibility, improve balance and posture, and boost confidence. The most important benefit of dance, and my favorite, is how it empowers nearly everyone, increasing energy and leaving you with a general positive outlook on life.
A lot of people tend to say to me the following: “Dance is intimidating.” This can be true. However, if you take yourself back to learning to ride a bike for the very first time: wasn’t that intimidating and scary as well? Didn’t you fall a lot before you got the hang of it? Of course you did! Why— because it was learning something new that you were not used to doing. This is the same as dancing. It is a new thing to grasp and incorporate into your daily regimen.
I am here to tell you that change is a good thing to add to your fitness schedule and life. So let’s get you in gear for your first dance fitness class by putting my 5 steps into action:
1) Do Your Homework.
Research the hottest dance classes in your area whether it is at a dance studio or gym. Call each location to learn about the type of dance classes they offer and if they are open to all levels. Ask questions about the instructor’s background and class format. Trust me, the instructor makes the class. From there, browse the Internet for the instructor and their class. With social media and the Internet these days I bet you will locate them and be able to get a feel of what you will be strutting your way into when you sign up for the class.
2) Mark Your Calendar.
Now that you have chosen your class, instructor, and location put it in your calendar. Commit and stay accountable to it!
3) Music + Your Home Living Room.
Start playing your favorite dance hits while you are home doing your chores, preparing dinner, or just relaxing. Clear your minds and focus all of your attention to that music. Music is everything in a dance class so the sooner you start matching your ear to the beat, then you are one step closer to landing the routine in your first class. Preparation is EVERYTHING!
4) Call a Friend.
Choose a good friend that you adore and feel comfortable around. Invite him/her to the dance class with you. Exercising in pairs and/or groups make the experience a lot more fun and enjoyable. You are starting something for the first time, so why not share that with a friend to make it more fun!
5) Dress The Part.
Every dancer needs the perfect outfit to hit the dance floor. Your attire will help you get into the movement and give you that extra swag to leave it ALL on the dance floor! Throw on a pair of cute sweats, fun sneakers, and one of my tees or tanks! I have created discount code dance247 just for YOU as I know after your first class you will be dancing 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Grab your favorite top and receive $5 OFF today on MY WEBSITE, then snap a picture and tag me on social media.
So…now, what do you think about Dance? Take the leap and get up and DANCE! Just remember that this is something new just like learning how to ride a bike. You might only get two moves in your first dance class and that is an A+ in my book. Then the second class you will get two more moves and then 2 more the next week and so on.
If you stay positive, motivated, and determined then you will be a dancer in no time and like I always say #YoullThankMELater.
