The inaugural runDisney Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend will take place November 14-16 at the Disneyland Resort in California. While there are many runDisney races on both coasts, each has their own unique qualities and they all draw quite a crowd, including many first time runners. Whether you are a first time half marathoner or a first time runDisney runner, everyone can benefit from a few tips from those who have raced on the west coast in the past. Along with my own tips, I have gathered information from some of my favorite running friends that I have had the pleasure of meeting up with during Disneyland runDisney races.
This #AskFF question was asked in regards to the event:
“I’m doing a runDisney race for the first time (Avengers Half at Disneyland). What do I need to know and do?”
First of all, don’t be overwhelmed! With some tips and tricks, you will feel confident going into your first runDisney race. Another good tip is to be sure you know the course. This will make you feel better about exactly where you are going, where the aid stations are, and where to tell your family they can cheer you on.
That tip leads into my next one, which is to read the official race program. You will get a copy of the program at the race expo, so be sure you have yours and take a little time to read through it. It has its own tips on fueling for the race, common courtesies while running, and start and finish times and information. Speaking of the finish, be sure to plan for it! The family reunion area can become a bit crowded and hectic, so make a plan for exactly where you will meet up with friends and family. Cell service can be spotty with so many people in one area trying to use their phones, so don’t rely on them to plan a meeting spot: go ahead and have a plan set.
