As a runner – I love to run. If I could run 100 miles every day, I would. Even though running is an incredible workout, I look for other programs that can improve my overall fitness.
I realize I am in the minority, but I dislike yoga, A LOT. Yet, I recognize the benefits. I have tried it so many different ways throughout the years and they are all so boring to me. Hot, Bikram, regular & etc. Within the first 10 minutes I am bored out of my mind.
A few months ago I heard of a new hybrid yoga plan by former professional wrestler, Diamond Dallas Page. It piqued my interest as I used to be a big wrestling fan and watched him many times.
I ordered the DVD set (yes, I paid for it).
From their website:
“DDP Yoga is not traditional yoga, it’s a hybrid workout that incorporates some traditional yoga movements and adds dynamic resistance, active breathing techniques and power movements to make for a more challenging and results oriented workout.”
I needed a workout that promoted flexibility but also didn’t bore me to death.
I tried it for 2 weeks leading up to a Full Marathon and I did feel more flexible. I also kept at it during my recovery week post Marathon. When I got back on the treadmill for the first time since my race – WOW! What a difference. I certainly felt a difference in my legs and my core.
Yet, it gets better! Three weeks ago my husband set out to improve his health and lose close to 60 lbs. As of this writing, he has been doing the DDP Yoga, as the program dictates and he has lost over 20 lbs, without starving himself. He will be the first to admit he didn’t want to do this, but I wanted him to have a good cardio workout without ANY impact, and this was it. Now, he sees results. In addition to his running and good nutritional plan – he is now a believer in DDP Yoga.
For those looking for a ZERO impact workout to increase your fitness or loose weight or improve your current fitness plan, I recommend DDP Yoga. I say this as a Certified Running Coach and Sports Nutritionist.
