As a fitness enthusiast, I know that being sleep deprived definitely throws my workouts off at the gym and I am not a happy camper when that happens! No one likes to wake up feeling exhausted and cranky.
Here are some tips to help you get a restful night’s sleep:
Keep to a schedule.
One of the things that can throw your sleep patterns off is when you go to bed at different times each night. Try and stick to a certain time when you go to bed and wake up each morning. Consistency can help keep your body’s internal rhythm in alignment which makes for a more comfortable night’s sleep.
Many people like to have a drink or two at night because they say it relaxes them. Unfortunately, it has the opposite effect on your sleep patterns. You may fall asleep easily but it can cause you to wake during the night. It can also tend to cause nightmares.
Stay away from late night dinners.
Try to refrain from eating at least 2-3 hours before bed time. Eating close to bed time can cause digestive problems which can keep you awake.
Create a bed time ritual that will relax you before going to bed. Reading, meditation, deep breathing, and prayers are all good ways to calm the mind and body. Stay off the computer, blackberry, and any other gadgets that get your mind going.
